I have an old email address that I rarely use anymore because it gathered so much spam and junk mail, before I was careful about what sites I posted my email address on... (some sites sell your email address to email spammers, we do not).

This is a recent spam mail I've been getting sent to that email address:

"Dear friabend,
I found your picture on one of the websiteas, can wae tbalk to
each other? I might be coming to your place in few weeks.
This would be a great bopportunity to meet each other.
Btw, I am a woman. I am 25. Drop me aa line at bexs@flybyairwayz.com" This was sent to me from this address: rdiofldwotxli@eurosport.com

I hope the above scammer gets a taste of her own spam.

The above is spam, and scam. She writes that she saw my picture on a website. The only website I'm on is this one, and I certainly do not publish email addresses of our members, nor do I use this email address at all.

There are three ways spammers obtain email addresses:

1) They purchase your email address from a site that you may have joined that turns around and sells their email addresses to spam sites to use for their marketing. (We do NOT participate in this awful practice, your email address is never displayed to anyone. The only way a member can see your email address is if you send it in a mail to a member that is allowed to see it.)

3) They use third party software that goes through the internet, spidering websites and culling email addresses from websites. The software starts with a site you start it on. So if they want addresses of singles, they start with a singles website. Then it spiders that site looking for email addresses. Then it spiders off to links on that site to other singles sites and so on until they accumulate massive amounts of email addresses. It's not as easy to find email addresses as it used to be, because site webmasters are being more careful about not publishing member email addresses to their websites so that they can respect your privacy.

I hope the above scammer gets her own spam when her email addresses get spidered.

3. They use a third party software program that mails out spam mail to "guessed" email addresses. For instance, it goes through all the very popular free email sites, such as hotmail.com, yahoo.com, etc., and even some not so popular, but known to provide email addresses for members. I suspect you could even probably put in any domain you desired and then spam them, as I own the domain shiningstar.net and the only addresses I have created for that are my family members. However, I notice that bob, joe, fred, susan, etc., are all sent emails to my shiningstar.net address, and of course joe@shininstar.net has never existed! But anyway, they take a domain name, such as yahoo.com, and they go through a listing of common names and shoot emails off to joe@yahoo.com.

Then they use an algorithm to randomly create email addresses using numbers, such as joe357@yahoo.com, then they randomly generate even more email addresses such as 1735AAEB@yahoo.com. So you think you're being safe using a very messed up email address, but not really. They flood email to nonexistent email addresses, but eventually they'll hit upon one that does exists. It's nuts.

So that's how you get your spam mail even though you've been very cautious where you submit your address. Sigh.

Here's another I got today:
Hello mby dear friend
I was looking through thea web few weeks ago and afound
your profile. Now I decided bto email you to get to know
you better. Ia am coming to your country in few weeks
and thought may be we can meet each obther. I am pretty
looking girl. I am 25. Do not reply to this address
directlby. Embail me back at vmenu@mailingiseasyy.com
It came from: qhiredsmj@siba.fi

I've been getting a lot of these lately to my support email address. Sigh. Can't even post my support address on the site anymore.
