This is an excerpt of something I wrote in a previous scam report...
I know it can be heart-wrenching to hear some of the stories these scammers have, but you never know the scam from the truth and it is best to send your money to a bonafide place that will make sure the proceeds go to the people.
I would like to recommend ADRA.org. It is a world-wide relief agency. Using the Gift Catalog, you can select exactly where your money goes to. My 12 year old donated her Christmas money to ADRA.org this year and selected to purchase mattresses for two children, a water system to help others purify water, education for others, and more.
And what I love about this relief agency is that "100 percent of your generous gift goes directly to the projects of your choice."
I was impressed to find a good relief agency when my daughter wanted to donate her Christmas money this year, and I was appalled to find out that many of these places do not give all the money to the people who need it. In fact, as a website owner, I was approached by one relief agency for aiding children to advertise their banners on my site. I was happy to do so until I found out that they PAY web admins 40% of the monies donated!!! Outrageous! I would never give my money to a place that turns around and gives nearly half of it away to some web administrator for displaying their banners. As well, it makes you wonder how much they actually keep for themselves!
