Ripping God Off?
First of all God Does not need your money. He can create wealth for the sheer fun of it. It fact he could have created so much Gold in this world that it would be only worth a pint of drinking water, but he did not. He could have created diamonds to be the worth of one sheet of ink jet paper but he did not, and he could have deemed one lung full of air to be worth as much as a tank full of gas, but he did not. What am I getting at here? The luxeries that you and I think are worth they weight in gold are actually nothing at all to God. If He wants to he could add abundantley. Afterall, God only cares about our motivation to use our limited resources wisely. And this reflects directly in our personal motivation in regards to ou own personal stewadardship of the planet. He does not care about the tithe or personal contributions to our church. What He does care about is the reason why you gave it in the first place, Was it grudgenly, was it without faith, or was it because every one else does the same and your have a need to feel recognized amongst your peers? Someday, we will give anything for a lungfull of pure air to breath, a mouthful of pure water to drink, or a skate board powered by a 120 MPG efficient moter just to get around on, or a piece of paper just to reminess your signature on. Alas, you might fulfill your winter heating needs in that last year with all the money that you have made thus far. Electronic transfer? anyone? No, I would opt for paper cash if I was stuck in that situation, thank you. Pay me in one dollar bills, so that I can burn them to keep warm instead. God is not slack in his promises to those who destroy the earth, but promises the good stewards of our ever dwindling resoures a plentiful bounty in the new earth.
God Bless You and Take Care of Her.
The Place we call Mother Earth.

Its funny how we think we know the Bible but we really don't.
Hearing something over and over in chrch does not make it so.
One cannot understand that text in Malachi and its context until one understands the 2 covenants and their relevance.
If one were to closely study the new testament as they do the old they would seem to comtradict each other. The reason for this is one is absolet (as one old testament prophet told us would happen- Isian or Jeremiah, can't remember which right now), and a new one took effect after Jesus died.
Every single thing that we need to know is written in the new, and everything from the old that is a part of the new covenant is included or reiterated.
Not only was tithing not mandatory for everybody- the poor were never required to tithe (please reread) they were not even paying money. And it definately not required in the new. The only mention of money and our 'obligation' is free will offering- as we call it.
So I caution, before you start to tell what the Bible teaches - take some time to make sure you got it right.
No offense meant to anyone...just please take the time to study.

I do believe that when we address these topics we need to go to the Word of God for clarification. We need to be very careful when we make statements to give scriptural references as to our statements. Where in the Bible does it say that tithe was to be returned on the first day? The text simple says "bring ye all the tithe into the storehouse that there may be meat in Mine house...Mal. 3:10, 11
Secondly, where is the scriptural reference indicating that tithing was for the Jews. The text says 'Will a man rob God?" Mal. 3:8. "Honor the Lord with they substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase" Prov. 3:9. Moreover, Paul tells us that we are Jews(Rom. 2:28, 29, Gal. 3:29. It's funny how we are often times quick to take all the blessings that God gave to the "jews" and we hang on to those promises which God gave to "Abraham" and "Jacob",(which we should because they are for all of mankind who wishes to follow Christ). We cannot be selective. When we are baptized we are adopted into God's family, therefore everything that applied to God's family them, applies to His family now. I do agree that there are some things that were a shadow and are no longer binding after Jesus died (animal sacrifice for sin etc.), but no where in the Bible does it says that tithing ceased after Christ death. When we look at the context of the remaining verses of Mal. 3, we see that it speaks of deliverance for those who fear the Lord and what will happen on the day the Lord make up His jewels. Obviously not only will there be biological jews that make up Gods jewels, but also spiritual jews (converted gentiles). Infact Jesus endorsed the tithing system. Matt. 23:23. Afterall "the earth is 'still' the Lord's and the fulness thereof, the world and they that dwell therein" Ps. 24:1. So really all we have belong to the Lord. He is simply asking us to return 10% of what He has given us. We are stewards.
So yes, mankind can and do rob God. The reason it is deemed robbery is because it is not ours and when we take what is not rightfully ours we are stealing. But let us realize that it's not only in tithe that we rob God but also in offering. Mal. 3:8
There is a curse (Mal. 3:9) and a blessing (Mal. 3:10, 11) attached. A blessing for those who obey and a curse for those who disobey.

I have had so many phenomenal things happen in my life as a result of tithe giving......two of the most monumental in my experience...
About 2 years into my marriage, an accident disabled our car while on a trip. We found out that the insurance had been canceled because of non-payment and we didn't have the $$ to fix the car outright. When we got home, I found months of bills sitting in a banana box next to my husbands desk. So I took over all the bills, and started paying tithe, as well. I worked at an SDA hospital snack shop where a sign was clearly posted 'No tipping'. After paying the bills and tithe, I had $17 left for two weeks to buy food (back in the early 70's). I worked the evening shift and my husband worked nights. I hitched a ride to and from work with a neighbor who also worked at the hospital, but my husband had to ride the train the 7 miles to the hospital for work.....I would get just enough tips to cover the train fare for him and our 6 month old son.
Many years later, when my daughter was old enough for the academy, I was doing emergency and respite foster care and had been through a 'dry spell' of not too much business. Then at the last minute, my son decided he wanted to go too (PTL!!!) and I prayed "Lord, I know you want my children to have a Christian education (I had been home-schooling them), but I need foster kids to help pay for the tuition". Within 3 or 4 months, I had 4 PERMANENTLY placed children in my home. Two by default because no one else would take them, the third, the judge was so pleased with the change he saw in the girl ordered her to stay and the fourth, the parent specially requested that I take their child.
'Somehow', all the 'needs' are taken care of.....I don't have any miraculously low heating bills or electric bills, but I always have enough work (and the subsequent money) to cover them. It truly is God's money first and if we honor him, he will bless us. One of the blessings is the 'peace that passeth understanding' because I know I am doing the 'right thing'. I give my tithe in faith that God is directing my religious leaders to distribute it appropriately and when all is said and done, I sleep very peacefully at night.

Tithing was a tax that was not given on the Sabbath. the Sabbath was set aside for God and God only. Tithe was paid (as a daty) on the first day of the week.Sunday. God loves a cheerful giver and I personally have not seen many cheerful tithers. Some don't even have contact with the process as it is a business tranaction handled by their accountant, quarterly or yearly. No love, no emotion, no intercourse, and no relationship. God says I desire spiritual sacrifices (love, obedience, worship, relationship, praise, service, etc.) The word of God says not preach for money and that the rightous shall live by faith. Jesus hung on the cross to deliver us from the curse of the law and condemnation so give all you can, whenever you can, buy a hungry person a meal, buy some Bibles and give them away, go out to the highways and byways (hedges) and be a witness of the Lord Jesus Christ. Love is the greatest gift of all. Be blessed..Be a blesser.. God blesses blessers!!
